On this cold Monday morning...

...I'm wishing for I could do a "freaky Friday" with the kitty cat, who's still curled up on the bed.

That way, he could stumble to my desk in the dark, after just five hours of sleep. And I could stay nestled serenely among the bedcovers, to await the sun.

Sometimes I find myself feeling vaguely resentful toward the cats. Sometimes they come across as being altogether way too smug about the fact that they get to loll about the house and nap all day long in between tiring bouts of stuffing themselves full of kibble.

Ha ha -- have been there. But it's only one of our cats who excels at looking smug. Not coincidentally, he's the only one of our three cat who used to scrap on the streets. I think he really does mock us for not having the luxury of an all-day, kibble-punctuated, nap.

Oh god, yes, the number of times the goddamn cat has gotten me out of bed to feed her half an hour before the alarm goes off, only to give me the baleful eye when, having eaten and gone back to bed, she's napping contently on my pillow while I get dressed and it *does* go off because I was too groggy to remember to hit the button when I got up to feed the cat...
